“A FAMILY CHURCH WITH A COMMUNITY SPIRIT” SEPTEMBER 2005

Trustee of the month for September is Bruce.   Please contact Bruce at  for any issues of the church building.

Christian Education:  The annual church picnic is September 11, 2005! It is at Bullis Park on Canandaigua Road at 10AM (please note the time change). Please bring a lawn chair, a dish to pass, table service, and an appetite for God's word and great food! This year we will be joined by Sheltered Reality, a drumming group of young people who bring their talents and a focus on homelessness. Sheltered Reality is the country’s first nonprofit musical organization dedicated to helping those who live in less fortunate circumstances. And because our picnic falls on 9/11, please wear patriotic colors or yellow ribbons to recognize the date. Come for worship, food, fun and fellowship! See you there!

Also a note about Sunday School: Sunday School starts up for all ages again on September 18, 2005. Once again Mrs. B  will be teaching a class for pre-K and Kindergarten ages. All children ages 3-6 are welcome! (Parents are welcome to stay if they like.) We had a small but mighty class last year, and I would love to have more students this year! Sunday School starts at 10:25 and goes until 11AM. Bring a friend!  Carol

Attention Parents:  please notify the church office with your student's new college address  for our newsletter mailing.  Thanks!

All Church Directory Committee:  It's that time again - the church directory is out of date!  If you'd like to help out with making a new one, please contact Vera  or Robbin. There are many things that need to be done to pull together a new directory, so a little time or a lot will be appreciated.  If this is something you would be interested in helping out with, please contact the church office at 986-4510. Thank you.

Bazaar & Quilt Show November 11 and 12: Theme is angels and bears.  Be working on your specialty for sale.  All kinds of items are needed.  Be creative - that's what people are looking for, things they can't find elsewhere.  There are about 60 bears available to be creative with.  They will be at the church beginning in September.

Scholarship:  Do you have a girl in college or going to be in college next September?  Are you aware there is a Women's Baptist Scholarship available?  Contact Bunny Lawrence for a scholarship application.  Must be in by March 1.

Women's Philathea News:  I hope you are enjoying this extremely warm summer and  getting out and going to a place where there is AC.  Jane had a knee replacement.  She had a few upsets, but is doing much better now.  Looking forward to seeing you back in church.  Our July meeting went well.  Got our programs set up.  The Camp-Of-The-Woods in Speculator is September 16 & 17.  If any of you ladies would like to go, call or come and see me.  Our first meeting will be September 21 at Lorna's home at 7 p.m.  Pastor Carol will be doing the program.    Saturday, October 8th is the Fall ABW Missionary Meeting.  Newark Baptist church will be the host.  We will let you know later about the details.  So put this date on your calendar.  Our scholarship girl is Courtney Shevchuk.  She is a junior attending the James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA taking up Music Education.  She hopes to be a music teach when she graduates.  Her birthday is December 17th.  If anybody would like to help her out and or like to make up a care package or send her a card, I am sure she would really would love it.  See me or call me so I can give you her address.  Lord bless me in the work I do.  Psalm 90:17  Let the beauty of the Lord our God open us and establish the work of our hands for us, yes establish the work of our hands.  Betty

Church Website:  I hope that if you've got a computer that you've accessed the church website this summer. There are also many mailing lists if you need to contact the Trustees, Deacons, Board of Christian Ed, etc. This fall we are going to be adding two more mailing lists for those that are interested. Mailing lists work as follows: you "subscribe" as you would for say a newspaper or magazine. Then when an email is sent to the list, everyone that is subscribed to that list receives a copy of the email. One new email list is for the Thought for Today. Each day you would receive an email with an inspirational Thought for Today. These are from a service that we have subscribed to, and it is the same one that currently appears on our church home page. This list is called "tft" The second is a whole-church email list. This would be used for example if there were a special event that occurs between newsletters (The Young Continentals visiting Long Acre Farms earlier this month, for example) or the need to contact many members quickly (when we had the snow emergency last winter, for example, this would have been another way of getting the word out). If you would like to subscribe to either of these lists, do the following: 1. Send an email to majordomo@fbcmacedon.org and in the BODY of the message, type (use one or both depending on which list you want to subscribe to): subscribe tft subscribe whole-church 2. You'll then receive two emails back from majordomo. Follow the directions in the second email that you receive. You will be replying back to majordomo with the line that begins "auth" to confirm that you want to subscribe to the list(s). If you have questions, see Robbin at church or email: robbin@fbcmacedon.org.

Dear Rev. Carol & FBC of Macedon Family, "In a special way God used you to show us His love!  We Thank God for You."  Thank you for the book "All Will Be Well" and for the many individual messages that were written for Bill inside the book.  We continue to be grateful to God, the medical profession and the many folks like yourselves who, through prayer and faith, are sharing Bill's journey.  As of today, Bill completed the fourth round of chemo - four more to go!  We still request your prayerful support.  We pray for the Wayne County churches and Pastors daily.  God Bless You, Rev. Bill & Marg

Dear Bauer's Macedon Baptist Church Family & First Baptist Church:  Thank you for your "Deepest Sympathy" and "Thoughts and Prayers" card.  Its open Bible print is so beautiful - I'm certain it has helped me in my sadness.  Dick was a miracle child - so many times his kidney specialist Dr. Kobilak saved his life with only a 1/2 hour leeway to do so.  I shall be sure that Margaret Ann's & Anna Marie's families see your beautiful condolence card.  The open Bible verse was my chosen symbol when I was Worthy Matron for Eureka Chapter No. 209 O.E.S. in 1979 - the International Year of the Child.  God bless you and yours, Love, Eunice

Thank you for your calls, prayers, cards, Pastor  Carol's and Minster David (E.W.)* Van Brakle's visits, I thank you so very much.  And with Christ's ongoing gift of healing, I'm now blessed with a wonderful NEW knee!  My joy overflows!  Elizabeth      *(Electronic Whiz)

Our sincere thanks to the FBC Family and Pastor Carol for your kind words, payers and cards as we deal with the loss of our Mother.  Phil & Carol Ann

To the members and friends of the First Baptist church of Macedon, Thank you so very much for keeping Anna  in your thoughts and prayers.  A special thank you to Marilyn, Anna's niece.  These three little words, "I Thank You" can't even begin to express how much I really appreciate your kindly thoughtfulness.  Anna's Daughter, Lois

Dear Friends, Thank you so very much for your prayers and cards these two months since Ralph's death.  I am beginning to recover from the physical exhaustion and realization that he is gone.  All of the necessary business details have been completed with Dana's guidance.  The next two months I hope to clean out files of out-dated files.  I am seeking to learn what God's will is for me to use my time.  Ralph's service was a joyous celebration because of the personal eulogies of our daughter, Marilyn, and Dana.  Then just before the benediction, Carol sang a beautiful spiritual, 'Goinin' Home" as Dana accompanied her.  All the comments spoke about what an uplifting, happy good bye for Ralph.  Hopefully, I will be able to visit with you again.  We always found such a warm welcome with you.  With sincere gratitude, Lois

Dear Advent House/Safe Journey Supporter:  Advent House and Safe Journey would like to invite you and your friends to participate in our 1st Annual Golf Tournament fundraiser.  The golf tournament has been a successful fundraiser for Advent House for 13 years and they have graciously asked Safe comfort care home, founded on hospice philosophy, for people in the final stage of life.  Safe journey is a nonprofit customized transition program for women and their children who have left situations of domestic violence and are rebuilding their live after abuse.  This year's tournament will be held once again at Victor Hills Golf Club on Monday, September 12, 2005.  Details are available on the fellowship hall bulletin board.  If you, or your company would like to be a corporate sponsor, please call Advent House at 585-223-6112 or Safe Journey at 585-425-1580.  We appreciate your support!  Sincerely, Glenda Hastings, Director Advent House

Dear Mrs. Knapp:  St. Patrick's Social Ministry Committee would like to thank all the children that attended the Cooperative Vacation Bible School Program held at Farmington Friends Church the first week of August for their large donation of canned goods and many bags of cookies to the Macedon Food Pantry housed in the basement of St. Patrick's Church in Macedon.  Every day the children attended the summer bible school program, they brought canned food for needy families.  The children are to be commended for sharing with the less fortunate families in our community.  Beside Farmington Friends, other churches involved in the program were Macedon Baptist Church, Macedon Center United Methodist Church and South Perinton Methodist Church.  At least 75 to 80 children attended the program every day.  We understand, Mrs. Knapp, that you were the major coordinator for the whole program assisted by many helping hands.  Sincerely, Mary Henning, Secretary Social Ministry Committee of St. Patrick's Church, Macedon, NY

Dear Rev. Carol Holtz-Martin, Our sincere thanks for the generous offer of your church facilities.  Without you generosity our Vacation Bible School could not have been possible this year due to our construction.  Forty children plus my staff were enriched with the spirit of each other through the word of God.  Sincerely, Elaine Doyle, Director of Religious Education

JOYS & CONCERNS:  Joys!   Tina, June's grand-daughter, married Michael in a July 8th ceremony at Bell Hurst Castle in Geneva, which Pastor Carol officiated.  Congratulations!  Also, congratulations to Jennifer and Louis who were married by Pastor Carol on July 9th.  Check out the wedding program on the bulletin board in the fellowship hall!  Congratulations also to David and Amy  who married in Greece, NY on July 9th.   Conor  was born July 14th, 2005 to Karen & John.  He was welcomed home by big brother Riley.  All are doing well.  Congratulations!  April and John  are expecting a baby girl in December!   Christian Sympathy is Extended to:  family and friends of Elizabeth, Phil's mother who went home to the Lord after a long illness.  To family and friends of Sue, who died after many years of battling cancer.  She was a friend and neighbor of the Mert, Sharon & Ryan.  The Reverend George Haddad, former pastor of FBC Macedon 1973-1979, passed away on August 12th.  Our sympathy is extended to his family and wife, Doris.  A memorial service was held August 18th at FBC Rochester.  Prayer Concerns:  Anna, Marilyn's aunt is in Clifton Springs Nursing Home and very much appreciates our prayers (see note from her elsewhere in this newsletter).  Dorothy, Debbie's grandmother underwent angioplasty and is currently suffering from complications.  Carol fell and broke her elbow and is currently doing well.  The Dan, Angela & Ryan family is moving to Pennsylvania to be close to Dan's family.  We will miss them and wish them well.  Amy, Marlys & Luke's daughter underwent surgery in July and the results were very good news.  Jane  underwent a knee replacement at Thompson Hospital and is at home recovering.  Melissa was in a serious car accident and totaled her car and only suffered minor injuries.   Walt  suffered a fall fracturing his elbow and badly bruising his arm.  Crystal, Mert's friend's daughter underwent a second kidney transplant and is fighting an infection.  Mary, friend and former member of FBC Macedon asks for prayers for herself and her home town church.  She had a procedure done at her local hospital on August 10th.
