"A FAMILY CHURCH WITH A COMMUNITY SPIRIT"                                        FEBRUARY 2005

You Are Invited to a Valentine Brunch!

When: Sunday, February 13

Time: Between Services

Where: Fellowship Hall

Why: Because the BYF loves you!

Cost: Nothing!! Just come down after the first service and enjoy a light meal and some sweet fellowship!

Lenten Studies: David V. will begin teaching Sunday School for Lent, beginning February 13th and will last throughout Lent. Class location will be in the lounge by the Pastor's office. Childcare will be available.

Diaconate Doings: The men of the Diaconate (Board of Deacons) will be hosting our third Annual Pancake Supper on Shrove Tuesday, February 8th at 6 p.m. After the meal we will have a time of fun and fellowship with our own incomparable BB Band supplying the entertainment. An offering will be taken for food costs; surplus goes to Samaritan's Purse. Please come and join us for this good time. According to my research: Shrove Tuesday is the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. Traditionally, people confessed their sins on this day and were SHRIVEN, or absolved, forgiven, reconciled, thus it was a time of lightheartedness, before the solemn days of Lent began. Please join us on Shrove Tuesday.

Lent and Easter are early on the calendar this year. Maybe a good way to begin to prepare our hearts, would be to start reading prayerfully now about Jesus life and ministry in one of the Gospels. As John said "...there are also many other things which Jesus did; were everyone of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books..."  John 21:25  Yours for good reading! Jane B, for Diaconate

Joys & Concerns: Joys! Congratulations to Ed & Debbie on the birth of Joshua Robert on December 21st. He is welcomed also by his big sister, Sam! All are doing well. Kevin & Donna have moved to Oklahoma where he will work with Choctaw Indians. This will hopefully serve as a stepping stone in his pursuit of the ministry. Prayer Concerns: The Reverend George, former pastor of FBC Macedon (1973-1979) was hospitalized for heart problems. Mike, a new father has brain cancer. Elizabeth, Phil's mother, is in hospice. Ken was hospitalized with congestive heart failure. Gert, Vera's mother, had to have her gall bladder removed. She is doing well and thanks the church for prayers and cards. Mabel, Gladys' mother, fell and broke her wrist. She is currently at The County Home in Shortsville. Gary, Alice's son-in-law is gravely ill. Charles, Gina's 6th grade math teacher, was called to active duty in Iraq. Joyce was diagnosed with cervical cancer and will be having a biopsy to find out the stage of it. Bryan was hospitalized at Strong Memorial and hopes to be home for his second birthday! Phyllis, Jane's mother, was hospitalized with heart related problems. Isabelle, Ruth's friend, is having tests for cancer. Nicholas, Tom's great-nephew, was born with Down's Syndrome. Christian Sympathy is Extended to: Vera's family on the loss of Uncle Ray. To family and friends of Andrew and Kelsey, both tragically killed in a train accident. To family and friends of Dan, Cheryl's fiance, killed in a car accident. And to family and friends of Lilly, Deb's grandmother, who passed away.

TRUSTEE OF THE MONTH FOR FEBRUARY is Harold B. Please contact Harold at xxx-xxxx with any problems with the church building.

Women's Ministries News: We will be having our meeting on February 16th at 7 p.m. Brenda B. was to host the meeting at her home, but due to some health problems we will not be having the meeting at her home. Please keep her in your prayers. Jane will be hosting the meeting at her home. We will be having a Valentine program. So if you have anything red to wear, it will help the program (Bless Somebody). The word says, Let each one of us make it a practice to please his neighbor for his good and for his true welfare to edify him. Galatians 6:9 And let us not lose heart and grow weary and faint in acting nobly and doing right for in due time and at the appointed season we shall reap if we do not loosen and relax our courage and faint. Betty

Nancy was student minister and choir accompanist and friend here in the early 1990's. She suffered a major stroke just before her 40th birthday, last spring. (Nancy's father died of a stroke when Nancy was in college.) Beginning last fall she has shown significant progress. This update came in mid-December. Please keep praying for her and her family. Cards to Nancy can be mailed to her home, please contact the church office for the address. Communication means a great deal to them all. Pastor Carol

Dear Friends: I'm glad to share some good news on Nancy's progress! I spoke with Maggi (Nancy's mom) recently, and she was relatively up-beat.  Nancy is now walking with a walker, with some impressive increases in her mobility. She was able to go to church over Thanksgiving (she got a standing ovation from her beloved Calvary Baptist congregation), and also went to her mother and stepfather's house for Thanksgiving. She's still not eating, though...but enjoyed being there all the same, even though she was pretty exhausted by the end of the day. Maggi said that Nancy can put together a few sentences at a time, now. She struggles a bit with getting her breath controlled enough to talk for long - the stroke seems to have affected her ability to use diaphragmatic breathing. This has also meant, to Nancy's dismay, that she can't sing - at least yet. Nancy is also working on typing, but it's very slow for her...Nancy has also been continuing to read, and I'm sending her some more books for Christmas.

The other news is that Nancy is now officially "too well" to remain at the nursing home - Maggi has been working very hard to find an alternate placement for her, preferably someplace where there would be other people Nancy's age - like a supervised living arrangement for folks in physical rehab. Keep this project in your prayers. Nancy needs a good place to live!!! Ed Note: Nancy is in a new placement. We trust more updates will follow!

Dear Carol: For 100 years, Fairport Baptist Homes has been true to its credo of "serving the aging who shaped our heritage." Thousands of people over nearly ten decades have served in myriad ways, and it is accurate to say that theirs has been a true ministry. That ministry has included generous gifts, which have played an important part in ensuring a quality of life for our Residents that is consistent with the Homes' mission. Your gift of decorating a Christmas tree for the FBH Centennial Heritage Celebrate is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your continued interest and support of the ministry here at FBH! Sincerely, Rev. Garth E. Brokaw, President

To All the People at the First Baptist Church of Macedon, Your thoughtfulness will be remembered. This extra-special thank you note that comes your way today holds more appreciation than any words can say... For you're the nicest kind of people this world has ever known, and you'll never be forgotten for the thoughtfulness you've shown. Thank You Very Much. The Flick & Bauer Family

Dear Pastor Carol & Church Members, Thank you for your generous gift bags of goodies for the men of the Bickford Home. The men look forward to your gifts each year and truly enjoy them. Your kindness and remembrance is deeply appreciated. God Bless You, Shirley & Peter
